Alright, my fellow gamemasters, it's time to talk about allusion. Now, I know you might be thinking, "What does literature have to do with tabletop roleplaying?" Well, my friends, let me tell you that allusion can be a powerful tool to create a richer and more immersive world.
Allusion is the use of references to famous literary works, myths, or historical events. It can be used to add depth and meaning to your game world, as well as serve as a way to foreshadow events that will happen in the campaign. For example, referencing the story of King Arthur can help create a sense of grandeur and nobility in a fantasy campaign.
But allusion isn't just about adding flavor to your world. It can also be used to create a sense of mystery and intrigue. By referencing historical events or myths, you can hint at the direction your adventures are heading, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement in your players.
Be careful not to overdo it. If you rely too heavily on allusion, your world can start to feel like a collage of other people's ideas. Use it sparingly and effectively, and your setting will come alive in the minds of your players.
